New German Government Set To Legalise Recreational Cannabis

The new German government is planning to legalise cannabis for recreational use. The coalition formed by the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD), Greens and Free Democrats (FDP), which is taking power from Angela Merkel's conservative CDU party, have agreed to introduce legislation which will authorise the sale of cannabis in licensed shops.

Germany will be the very first European country to ever legalise recreational sale of cannabis, If the law is approved.

Some European countries have already decriminalised the recreational use of cannabis and Medical Use is already legal in many European countries.

However in saying this, German police unions are against legalisation.

According to a study by the University of Düsseldorf, legalising Cannabis could boost Germany’s annual revenue by more than €4.7bn.
